snacky: (narnia pevensies are back)
You know, it occurs to me that I didn't even post this in my own space, I was so busy advertising at other comms. So let's remedy that! :D

The Narnia Fic Exchange is an annual anonymous fic exchange, similar to Secret Santas and other fanwork gift exchanges.

Participants submit a request, with prompt ideas such as characters, situations, and themes. The mods match these requests with another participant, who then writes the requested fic. All participants receive a fic based on their request/prompt. The authors are anonymous until all the stories have been posted.

Earlier on Twitter:

@bedlamsbard: Some stuff always triggers my Narnia random academia stuff hindbrain. Now thinking of famous Narnian paintings.

@snacky: I misread that as "famous Narnian pairings" started thinking of stories of famous Narnian lovers in epic poetry, plays & song.

@bedlamsbard: Heh! Gosh, I can't even begin to think of famous Narnian pairings. Edmund and his mistresses. Caspian and the Star's Daughter.

@snacky: One of the Narnian's bards' favorites: The Tale of the High King and Seven Would-be Wives. :D

@bedlamsbard: And the romance that no one ever talks about: Caspian the Conqueror and his Narnian wife.

@bedlamsbard: A famous Narnian painting about a pairing! King Edmund sitting in the throne room, listening to a suit but looking at his mistress.

@snacky: Or Caspian and the Star's Daughter on their wedding night, with the stars shining down on them.

More famous Narnian paintings! )

Sing Down The Stars... )

Author's notes: Written for the 2011 Narnia Fic Exchange, for this prompt: Rillian having to prove he's himself (and not enchanted) upon his return to Narnia, possibly dealing with Miraz's son or other descendants trying to claim the throne.

Thanks to my betas, [personal profile] unsuitenedt and [personal profile] rthstewart, for all their help. And thanks to [personal profile] edenfalling for such a great prompt! I'd had this story in mind for a long time, so when I saw it on your list of prompts, I jumped on it. Bookverse, not movieverse, as requested, although I took the liberty of giving Ramandu's Daughter a name.

The reveals for the Narnia Fic Exchange are up!

First, I received Suffer A Sea Change, a post-Dawn Treader-movie fic, with Liliandil explaining her quest to Gael. It was written for me by the lovely [personal profile] animus_wyrmis.

Second, I wrote Sing Down The Stars for [personal profile] edenfalling.

Thoughts on that back here... )

If you're interested in a Narnia Big Bang, or a longer version of a fic exchange or fest for the Narnia fandom, I have a post open for brainstorming right here. Please come join us!

Last night on Twitter, [personal profile] wingedflight21 tweeted:

@WingedFlight: I enjoy introducing friends to the joys of fandom through sex shenanegains. @accidentalsquid

Then I saw this tweet:

@accidentalsquid: @snacky So, @WingedFlight just told me that Peter got laid. Also, something about porpoises. Say it ain't so?

@snacky: I believe Peter getting laid is still being written. Meanwhile Susan did get laid, and Edmund thought he heard porpoises.

@accidentalsquid: @snacky And that was what you missed last time on Glee!

Madness ensues... behind the cut. )

I suspect I should be embarrassed. But, as [personal profile] musesfool always says, "we make our own fun."
snacky: (narnia edmund)
[personal profile] rthstewart started it, with AU fic of her TSG series, where we learn that she ships Peter/Camel.

Then [profile] anastigmatfic took that AU to the Florida everglades and happened to mention that Edmund and Susan were in Russia.

Ruth wondered what they were doing in Russia, and I had an idea... )

Well, a podcast, actually! The wonderful ladies of Narnia Fan Fiction Revolution had me on their podcast, AsCast. If you want to hear me talking about The Silver Chair, fandom in general, and how I met J.K. Rowling, you can download the episode here. It's AsCast Ep. 18: We're Firing Liam Neeson and Hiring Jane Lynch. Yes. As you can imagine, it's a lot of fun.

More a softer world remixes. John says I am adorkable, but I am having fun with these! :D

A Softer Narnia... )
snacky: (narnia vdt through the lilies)
Hello, people of the internet. You ask how I have been spending my time, well, I have been sending out resumes and... waiting to hear things. Mostly, I hear a resounding silence. Today, I got an rejection letter, and I actually was excited about it. Only because at least I knew there was a definitive answer, rather than just hoping to hear something for weeks. I know, I know, I am sad.

I also play around with Photoshop! (I know, I know, again, sad.)

You know the webcomic a softer world? Well, [personal profile] musesfool showed me remixes of that comic that people had done for the DCU, like so:

The deal is, you take the text from the comic, and add your own visuals to it.

So I said to myself, "Self, why don't you try that for your fandom?" And I did! Some results behind the cut (warning, lots of images): a softer Narnia... )
snacky: (narnia kings and queens)
I made two fanmixes for [community profile] halfamoon 2011, inspired by two of my favorites, Susan and Lucy Pevensie from The Chronicles of Narnia.

Fic reveals

Jan. 3rd, 2011 05:20 pm
snacky: (yuletide)
Yeah, I know everyone else did this a few days ago, but I've been busy with real life and sick. Also I had to watch the complete miniseries of The Stand yesterday.

So, for Yuletide I wrote A Game of You for [livejournal.com profile] gyzym. The fandom was The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin.

A little meta back here.. )

I have to thank [livejournal.com profile] rthstewart and [livejournal.com profile] crantz/[personal profile] crantz for their excellent beta, and [livejournal.com profile] crantz/[personal profile] crantz made all the graphics for me. And since I am always title-challenged, I have to thank [personal profile] musesfool for the title. ;)

*************

Also, for the NFFR Secret Santa Exchange, I wrote The Riddle of the Sphinx, Narnia fic for [livejournal.com profile] wingedflight21, from this prompt:

I'll just list a ton of stuff I love and you can pick and choose: Snarky Edmund, Susan in battle, Lucy in trousers, mythical creatures not often found in Narnia fic, Eustace post-dragon, darker AU (not necessarily meaning "everything turns out worse AU", just "everything involves a lot of hard decisions and potential angst AU"), consumption of (too much) wine, down the rabbit hole, the treasure chamber of Cair Paravel, Jill and Eustace relationship (not necessarily romantic) directly before the train wreck.

If you like crossovers, other fandoms I would love to see crossed over with Narnia are Doctor Who and Swallows and Amazons.

So that was a great prompt, with lots of stuff to choose from. Originally I had considered a darker AU of The Silver Chair, but then it seemed a little too dark for a holiday fic (although I'll probably write that someday), so in the end I went with Snarky Edmund, Lucy in trousers, mythical creatures not often found in Narnia fic, consumption of (too much) wine.

I amused myself writing it, because Edmund's always a fun character, but am never sure if the things I think are funny make anyone else laugh. ;)

Again, I have to thank [livejournal.com profile] rthstewart and [livejournal.com profile] crantz/[personal profile] crantz for their excellent beta. This one I titled myself, though, as you can probably tell. :D

Title: The Riddle of the Sphinx
Author: [personal profile] snacky
Fandom: The Chronicles of Narnia
Rating: PG
Spoilers/Warnings: Assume spoilers for LWW / warning for underage consumption of alcohol
Summary: There are so many reasons Edmund doesn't like Sphinxes.
Author's Notes: For [livejournal.com profile] wingedflight21 for the NFFR Secret Santa Exchange. Prompts used: Snarky Edmund, Lucy in trousers, mythical creatures not often found in Narnia fic, consumption of (too much) wine. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] rthstewart and [livejournal.com profile] crantz/[personal profile] crantz for the beta.

I never joke, sire. If you fail to answer all five riddles, we must kill your sister. It's the Sphinx's Law, as I said. We cannot allow a prisoner to leave the Tower, unless the riddles have been answered... )

List time

Dec. 19th, 2010 01:27 pm
snacky: (yuletide)
1) Yuletide fic is done! Finished, betaed, titled (*g*) and uploaded. HUZZAH! I am ridiculously nervous over it, but at least I am done.

2) Now on to the next fic exchange - I've got a NFFR Secret Santa due. *collapse*

3) Christmas presents are mostly bought. I've got a few more to get on Monday (I am hoping there will be less of a crowd at the stores since many people will still be working. *sob*), and then I will be done. YAY!

4) Then I have to start wrapping gifts. BOO!

5) My grandparents are still not going to the home. My grandmother wants to go, but doesn't want people looking at their taxes ("It's my money! Why do they need to know about it?!") and my grandfather doesn't want to go at all ("I won't be RAILROADED!"), until the next time my grandmother gets sick of course, and he starts crying about how it's all too much, he can't handle it, it's not fair because everyone goes home and he has to take care of her. Then she starts feeling better and he forgets he ever said any of that.

They called my mother today to tell her the power was out at their house. My mother told them to call Rick.

6) Started baking Christmas cookies yesterday, and hopefully will get the rest done tonight. All the peanut brittle is made, and that just leaves the baklava.

7) I also have to make the traditional family pate, which takes forever, and means a special shopping trip. But that'll be later in the week, since you don't want to make pate too early.

8) And I am thinking of Christmas ice cream. Peppermint stick or eggnog? Or both? What do you think?

9) I have seen Voyage of the Dawn Treader again. I still think it's better in 2-D. I still think it's not as good as the first two movies. But it has some beautiful scenes and some really nice moments, and Will Poulter as Eustace is still a delight. I also rewatched LWW and PC and spoiler, I guess... )

10) I've been so focused on Yuletide that I haven't been reading fics or leaving feedback, so I am planning to spend the afternoon doing that. Oh, what a chore. ;)
