Remix Reveals!
Remix reveals are live and I wrote four stories this year, one for my assignment and three for Remix Madness.
Yeah, I don't even know what came over me, heh.
The first story I wrote:
Where There's No Snow (the Baby You Can Sleep While I Drive Remix) (1656 words) by
Snacky
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Chronicles of Narnia - C. S. Lewis, Chronicles of Narnia - All Media Types
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warning: Author Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Characters: Peter Pevensie, Lucy Pevensie
Summary:
Actually, this was the second story I wrote, but the first one I finished. I remembered reading the original story when
vialethe posted it, and I love the trope of Susan traveling the world after the train crash, and here she had Edmund as well. I thought for a bit about swapping the POV to Edmund's, but that seemed too easy, so I flipped the story, making it Peter's POV, and taking it out of the real world.
One thing about The Last Battle that always bugged me was the whole "death IS a happy ending!" thing. I mean, yeah, they're happy, it's heaven, but is that it? No one ever thinks about anything but, "OH WE'RE SO HAPPY WE'RE DEAD AND HERE, FORGET EVERYONE ELSE"? So Peter and Lucy can't quite be happy without Edmund and Susan even in heaven, and they set off to find them, with their travels mirroring Edmund and Susan's in the real world.
Of course, because it IS heaven, that gave me some magical things to play with, like the Real Worlds inside the Real Worlds, and history coming to life. And Peter and Lucy are different than Susan and Edmund, so the melancholy in the original story changed to wonder in mine. And then I had to give them a happy ending! I know, I know, people don't like happy endings in fanfic, they want angst! /o\ I am sadly flawed, fandom: I like happy endings.
For Remix Madness, I wrote:
The Endless in Between (The Read Between The Lines Remix) (1878 words) by
Snacky
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Chronicles of Narnia - C. S. Lewis
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Susan Pevensie, Edmund Pevensie, Lucy Pevensie, Peter Pevensie
Summary:
Okay, so this was technically the first story I wrote, but I had such a hard time with the ending, that I changed the Remix to the other story, and then tried to finish this for Remix Madness.
I did end up finishing it, but I'm not sure if it works? I was pretty happy with most of the story, but I had a hard time with the ending, obviously.
Confession: two things I suck at are endings and titles.
Anyway, I really loved the original story. I loved the AU of it, I loved that both Edmund and Susan stayed behind, that Susan had a daughter, that their story changed so much. I kept Susan as the POV character for the remix, but I told more of the story within in the story (hence the remix title). I wanted to get Susan's grief and shock at being torn from her daughter in there, and her anger at how she and her siblings got moved around like toys on a whim, or at the sounding of a horn.
The other thing I wanted in there was that it all happened so quick, so that even though Susan and Edmund were suddenly 1300 years in the future, it didn't feel possible to her that her daughter could have lived an entire life in those few days they'd been separated. So that's why I eventually went with the ending I did - Susan choosing not to find out Elen's fate, as if by not knowing, it would let her live longer.
So I'm not sure if the ending worked, and also! After what I said before, not a happy ending! Shocking, I'm sure. :D

Changeling (The Hidden Life Remix) (705 words) by
Snacky
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Chronicles of Narnia - C. S. Lewis
Rating: General Audiences
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Summary:
Oh, this was a fun story to do. I really liked the original, how the crossover worked so well, and the way it switched between England and Dickon's memories of Narnia.
My remix isn't a crossover anymore, but I was inspired by Dickon's younger sister Elayn - what happened to her? What if she did remember some things about her previous life? It's been a long time since I read The Secret Garden, but I think the timeline worked, making his younger sister the Pevensies' mother. And it was fun to think that when the Pevensies arrived in Narnia, a hundred years after their mother left, they really were the rightful heirs. It's a quick story, but I like where it went. Although once again, you can see my weakness with endings, I think.

Follow The Star (Into the Light Remix) (1207 words) by
Snacky
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Chronicles of Narnia - C. S. Lewis, Chronicles of Narnia (Movies), Chronicles of Narnia - All Media Types
Rating: General Audiences
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Caspian (Narnia), Liliandil
Summary:
It's hard to pick one of Ruth's stories to remix! I am very intimidated by the length of them! But, aside from being shorter, I picked this one because it was straight movieverse, and because I liked how Ruth alluded to a relationship with Lucy and Liliandil.
Of course, I made that relationship more text than subtext. *g* I also wanted to write a Liliandil who was more flawed and more real than she's usually written - she's always this gracious, all-knowing star on a noble quest, and everyone is in awe of her wisdom and beauty. So that's how it started, with Liliandil being annoyed with Caspian's awe of her, and the story grew out of that.
I actually like how it ended, with a beginning for Liliandil and Caspian. Even with my faulty endings. *g*

Susan does not think her heart could break yet again. But it does, as hard and painful as all the times before, and silent tears roll down her cheeks at her daughter's words.
