Susan remembers everything, other than how Jon Snow had gotten in that wardrobe along with them. It's everyone else who's forgotten.

This is a gorgeous, heart-breaking Narnia/ASOIAF crossover with Susan Pevensie/Jon Snow, and basically Vialethe crawled in my head and found out everything I ever wanted in a fic and gave it to me, and it's lovely and I love her for it.

Next up, another Susan/Jon fic:

Another one totally tailored for me! Action and humor, and I literally laughed out loud! It is so much fun!

I wrote one fic, for Aurilly because she's the best:

a shaped romance (2115 words) by Snacky
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Chronicles of Narnia - C. S. Lewis, Marvel Cinematic Universe
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: James "Bucky" Barnes/Edmund Pevensie
Characters: Edmund Pevensie, James "Bucky" Barnes
Additional Tags: Romance, Kidnapping!, no real action though, Crossover, bucky in narnia, Narnia Fic Exchange 2020
Summary:

Adventure and a weird sort of romance with Edmund and Bucky!

I rewrote this like, seven times before I was satisfied with it. That said, I think it came out well in the end! I am intrigued by Bucky and Edmund as a pairing, and it took me a while to make them work. And I wanted them well-adjusted (mostly) and happy. I laughed out loud at a couple of parts when writing it, so that seemed like a good sign.

I cut the smut, though, sorry (available upon request). :D

Hello! Greetings from Cape Cod! I am in full vacation mode, eating breakfast late and on the deck, getting ready to spend the day at the beach, reading in the sun, and floating in the surf.

No sharks spotted, so my body is safe from nibbles, in case you were worried. :D

I did this meme over on Twitter (thanks [personal profile] rthstewart!) but it was fun, so let’s bring it here!

Tell me the one fic you associate with my username. In exchange, I’ll tell you a secret about that story.

It can be a scene that was deleted or never written or character motivations or even a story from my shameful past.

Ask away! Perhaps a scandal will be revealed!

Yes, it's me again! I am being THE CHANGE I want to see!

***

Yesterday at work, when I was giving a new coworker a tour, a male coworker told me I was too loud and that he could hear me talking all the way down the hall. SHUT UP, ASSHOLE, I told him in my loudest voice.

Okay, I didn't actually say that, but I wanted to. Instead I told him that yes, I had a very loud voice and he will always hear me coming if I am talking to someone, and that's just my voice and at this point in my life I am not going to get any quieter.

He really didn't know what to say to that. He just kept repeating, "but you're loud" and I kept saying, "YES I AM!" until he shut up.

I took it as a victory.

I am in a fic exchange mood! I am of course doing the Narnia Fic Exchange (and you can too! :D) and I am going to sign up for AuExchange, but now I am considering Remix Revival. I'm also thinking about King of Exchanges, but this will involve rereading some Stephen King (not really a problem).

Is this too much? Am I being a fool to take on multiple exchanges? Probably yes, but I want to! Also I need to write a NYR so they'll let me back into Yuletide. This is A LOT for me. But I feel ambitious!

I saw Josh Groban at Tanglewood last night. He was, as expected, delightful. Everything I wanted and MORE.

(Did I ever mention Josh Groban is my fancast for Fingon from Tolkien's Silmarillion? Random Snacky fact.)

Tanglewood is a wonderful place to see a concert. Out in the middle of nowhere, very low key, surrounded by nature -- a perfect place to take a nice long walk, have a drink on the lawn, and hear some great music. If you're ever out in the Berkshires, I highly recommend it!

My mother treated me to the concert, and we stayed overnight rather than drive home last night. Unfortunately we stayed in kind of a terrible dump? My mother was like, "okay, but I got a GREAT deal online" which was good, except we were right on the highway, and I'm pretty sure there was some crack dealing going on. I didn't see any mice or roaches, which was a positive.

Anyway, we were up and out early, to breakfast. My mother claims she has learned a lesson: "nothing cheap online is ever very good" which I don't think is entirely true, but maybe just look at Yelp or something before booking a dump?

After breakfast, we went to the Norman Rockwell Museum, which is also out in the middle of nowhere. It was great driving to all these places, seriously, so beautiful, surrounded by mountains. The NRM is also a great place to walk around and bring a picnic, but if you like Norman Rockwell (I do) and are interested in Americana (I am) and also have a bit of nostalgia for a perfect small town life that you never experienced (I... not really, but it's fun to imagine), this is the place for you! There's an entire gallery just devoted to his Saturday Evening Post covers, and I could study them all day long. The thing I love the most about Rockwell is how every single one of his pictures could tell a detailed story, and there's a lot about that and how he did it in the museum.

From the museum, we treated ourselves to a wonderful lunch at The Red Lion Inn. This place has been around in some form or another since colonial times, and it's a lot of fun to walk through and get the antique vibe. Lunch was great, and if you go, save room for the warm brown sugar cake for dessert. OH MY GOD, SOOOOO GOOD.

I need to find a recipe now.

This was a great exchange! Hurt/Comfort = HURT ME SO GOOD.

I received this fantastic gift:

Securis (8608 words) by lirin
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Chronicles of Narnia - C. S. Lewis
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Edmund Pevensie & Peter Pevensie
Characters: Peter Pevensie, Edmund Pevensie
Additional Tags: Hurt/Comfort, Time Travel, Ettinsmoor
Summary:

Peter awoke in a grassy valley with several cracked ribs, still clutching Edmund's bacon and egg sandwich in his hand.

It combines two of my favorite things: Narnia and time travel, and ties them up in a nice little H/C package! It's a fun story, and a very clever way to have one of the Pevensies travel back to Narnia.

And I wrote:

strings of tension, waiting to be struck (9676 words) by Snacky
Chapters: 3/3
Fandom: Chronicles of Narnia - C. S. Lewis, A Song of Ice and Fire - George R. R. Martin
Rating: Mature
Warnings: Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Relationships: Edmund Pevensie/Sansa Stark
Characters: Edmund Pevensie, Sansa Stark, Robb Stark, Jon Snow, Susan Pevensie, Original Characters (Narnia)
Additional Tags: Hurt/Comfort, Arranged Marriage, Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence, Intimacy, Worldbuilding
Summary:

Queen Susan of Narnia has journeyed to Westeros to broker an alliance, and hopefully a betrothal. She's successful, but the betrothal is between Edmund Pevensie and Sansa Stark, and both are wary of this match. But as battle looms, and they get to know each other, it's possible this may work out after all.

Yes, a Narnia/ASOIAF crossover, which is right up my alley. I had so much fun writing this story, taking the Narnian characters and putting them into Westeros. Alas that I am such a slow writer, because I feel like I could have written 10000 more words in this crossover.

The archive is here, and there's some really good stuff, so go! read! now! :D

I am writing and posting this entry on my laptop!

This is remarkable because my laptop has been on the verge of death for several weeks now. It's a 2012 Macbook Pro, so it's already had a pretty good life, by laptop standards. Last year, it had a problem starting up (it wouldn't), so I took it in to the local Mac repair place (not an Apple Store, but an "Apple certified" repair shop), and they did some kind of repair magic and got it to work again. One thing they suggested was replacing the hard drive with a solid state drive in the future, so I kept that in mind.

Unfortunately it's been super slooooooooooooooooow ever since, and it crashes when I have more than one program open, and sometimes it crashes so hard that all I can do is shut it off and walk away. So that's been frustrating. About two months ago, the trackpad started to die, and then the crashes got even worse, so off I went to the Mac repair shop again. They had me leave the laptop and said they'd order a trackpad and quote me on replacing the HD with an SSD.

So replacing the trackpad was a reasonable cost, but they didn't recommend replacing the HD because the laptop is so old that Apple considers it a "legacy" product, and they wouldn't be able to warranty the work because of the age, blah blah I didn't understand anything but "too old." Still, they gave me the quote, and with parts and labor, it was going to be around $600 to swap out the drive.

I said "no thank you" and I went online and found a couple of guides on how to replace the HD in an old Macbook Pro with an SSD, and said to myself, "Oh, I think I can do this." When I picked up the laptop from the Mac repair shop, the customer service person was like, "I have a 2009 Macbook Pro and I swapped the drives and it's still working great!" So like, hint taken, my friend.

I bought an SSD and the tools I needed from Amazon. Everything arrived yesterday, so last night I cloned the old drive to the new, and then this morning I opened up the computer and swapped the drives and AMAZINGLY I didn't screw it up, and now everything is working great. It's all speedy and I can open multiple programs at once, and iTunes doesn't take 20 minutes to open, and I can actually use Photoshop Elements again!

So now I feel extremely techie! And I've very pleased with my accomplishment, and I had to share it with you all.

Oh, and the trackpad works great again!

In other news, I watched The Umbrella Academy and I loved it. I went in with no expectations and I was delighted by the messed up family of would-be superheroes. Anyone else watching?

Hello! It’s minus 8 degrees (F) here and luckily I had the day off for MLK Jr Day, because the roads are RIDICULOUSLY bad after all the snow and ice yesterday. Hopefully they’ll be better tomorrow, because my commute will be awful.

And I only live a 10 minute drive from work, so people who have a REAL commute will have it much worse.

Also I got a cortisone shot in my left knee today! Wheeeeeeee! I know how to have fun on my day off, don’t I? I’m currently icing and elevating it, and hopefully all will be better soon.

I did a lot of reading over the long weekend — I’m currently in the middle of GRRM’s Fire and Blood, or as I like to call it, “Ugh, Targs.” It’s a bit of a slog. For every Targaryen woman I’m enjoying learning about, at least ten die in childbirth, or are married off at age 11, or are sexually abused/raped/imperiled in one way or another. And FYI, fuck Jaehaerys, “greatest Targaryen king ever” my fat ass. All the male Targs should have been set on fire (happily, many of them were!). I think I might have to put the book on hold for a while.

How’s everyone else doing, DW?

My cable company sent me a new modem yesterday. It was unexpected! They sent me an email saying "we're sending your new equipment" and I had to call them and say, "what new equipment?" and they were like, "hmmm someone was supposed to send you an email" WHICH GUESS WHAT, THEY DIDN'T.

In any case, they were sending me a new modem, at no charge, to upgrade my speed. They said I had one of the oldest modems and the speed was Not Good.

So okay, I got the modem yesterday, I followed the instructions to hook it up, and of course, it didn't work. So I had to call the cable company and they had to flip some switches on their end (I guess? Maybe they pushed buttons?) to get my tv, internet, and phone to work. But it finally did, so that was a relief. Then I had to go out to the local cable store to return the old modem, so they wouldn't charge me for it.

I didn't really get a chance to test it out until today, and you know what? It really IS super fast! I'm kind of amazed at how quick I can use the internet! I'm also amazed that I didn't realize how slow it was until today.

In other tech news, my laptop (a 2012 Macbook pro) is not doing well. I think the hard drive is dying and I'm planning on swapping it out with a solid state drive. Also the track pad only works intermittently, which is SUPREMELY FRUSTRATING. I don't know what the deal with it is -- it could be the battery, which fucks things up in Mac laptops often, or it could be that the trackpad is really just... dying, I guess. Which means I'm looking at a trip to the local Apple store.

Once my finances improve, that is. Thyroid cancer is not just bad for your health, it is bad for your wallet. :(

Hi DW! I hear this is the place to be! Gotta clean the joint up!

So, how about that Avengers trailer? I maybe teared up at work. I am lucky I have the kind of job where I can a) watch trailers during the day, and b) cry about them. My coworkers felt bad for me, so they bought me sushi for lunch.

But I am ready for the movie RIGHT NOW.

State of the Snack:

1) Work: going well, see above. Crazy time of year though, and I’m looking forward to the semester break. Looks like a promotion in my future, so that’s something to look forward to.
2) Health: eh. Cancer recurrence, seeing the doctor in January, probably going to have surgery in February. I feel... okay? I’m constantly tired, often weirdly hungry, I am having some side effects from swallowing radiation (salivary gland infections, dental issues) and I no longer sleep well. It could be much worse, I know! But honestly, thyroid cancer is kind of a pain in the ass.
3) Fandom: fun but omg the drama in my corner of the ASOIAF/GoT fandom is just Too Much for a Fandom Old.

Now remind me to post something every day, and then I can officially call DW home again.

The problem with having a playlist called "singalong" is that I actually sing along with all the songs as they come up, and I don't realize I'm doing it.

This brought to you by me just noticing I was singing "Jet Boy Jet Girl" at my desk with my coworkers around.

For some reason my university decided not to close even though there's a foot of snow on the ground and it's still piling up. It's kind of weird because it's spring break and there aren't any students around, but evidently we are all essential personnel and must be here.

I've been up since 4 when they started plowing in the condo complex. After a while I gave up on sleep and when I realized that my school wasn't closed, I got up and went in to work. If I have to dodge downed trees and wires to be here, they can pay me overtime for coming in early. Call it hazard pay.

The downside is that since I've been up since four, I'm ready for a nap now. The upside? There's only 4 other people in the entire building. No one else in my department came in. They're all "working from home" or taking a vacation day. The problem with being the low on the totem pole is that I can't work from home, and the problem with having cancer is that I've used up all my sick and vacation time, and can't spare a day for snow. So I was coming in even if I was snowshoeing it.

Hopefully when I doze off, my snores won't echo through the empty halls.

2017 gave me one last kick in the teeth as my laptop sank into a coma yesterday. THANKS 2017, for ending!

On the plus side, 2018 started off pretty well as my cats seem to have reached a detente, and there was no attempted murder this morning, after two months of howling, hissing, fur-flying, claws-like-knives hatred.

So yay, 2018, keep it up! I hope you all are healthy and happy (and not freezing!) this New Year’s Day.

This could be fun! And maybe I'll post more, haha?

Pick any story I've written, and comment to this post with that selection. I will then give you the equivalent of a DVD commentary on that snippet: what I was thinking when I wrote it, why I wrote it in the first place, what's going on in the character's heads, why I chose certain words, what this moment means in the context of the rest of the fic, lots of awful puns, and anything else that you’d expect to find on a DVD commentary track.

My fic is here.

I just read a thread that devolved into people arguing about whether they thought of Robert Downey Jr's dick when they wrote smut.

(Spoilers: Smut writers say no, not thinking about RDJ's dick specifically, just a general dick for smutty purposes. People do not believe this say it's a little like raping RDJ to write about his character having sex because OF COURSE you must think about his dick.)

There were no winners. Except me. Who laughed and laughed.
