Here, let's have a meme:

Post an excerpt from as many random works-in-progress as you can find lying around.

Untitled Narnia/L'Engleverse crossover:
Susan tries to listen carefully as he explains. She's always thought she was intelligent, but watching Charles Wallace's hand fly over the paper as he sketches, she realizes that all this is far over her head. But there's one thing she does understand.

"So you can travel in time?"

He stops all his explanations, drops the pencil from his hand, and a long moment passes while he stares at the paper. But finally he looks up at her, and Susan feels a shiver run through her at the intensity of his stare.

"Yes."

We Got The Kind of Voices That Are In Your Face, Young Avengers. In which our heroes decide to start a band…

It's Tommy's idea, of course. Because the worst ideas often are.

"We should start a band," he says. And he says it decisively, in a tone that brooks no arguments. "We need a hobby."

Eli just gives him that Look, which Tommy is expecting. To be honest, if Eli ever stopped giving him The Look, Tommy would be sure be Eli was replaced by a Skrull.

"We're already a super-hero team in our spare time," Teddy says, not looking up from phone on which he's texting Billy (who is sitting right next to him, so Tommy doesn't know why they're texting each other, unless it's a sex thing. Which it probably is. Tommy decides he doesn't want to know). "I don't think we need another hobby."

Untitled Caspian/Peter fic, Narnia:

Every time Caspian watches the stars now, he remembers those stories. He wonders if Peter watches the stars too, in his other world.

When a star streaks across the sky, he finds himself saying out loud, "I wish Peter were here." Then he closes his eyes, blocking out the stars, and wonders at himself for being so foolish. Of course he's thought hundreds of times that he wished Peter and his siblings could stay. But he knows better. And he knows he shouldn't have made the wish - wishing on a star is serious business. Caspian shouldn't waste wishes on things that will never come true. He thinks of all the things he could have wished for - to be a better king, to help guide Narnia to a happy and prosperous future, to find a bride and raise a family, and he feels himself flushing, embarrassed and annoyed at himself for making the wish of a child. He's just glad he's alone, that no one was there to hear his wish.

But when he opens his eyes again, he's not alone. The High King Peter is leaning against the castle wall, and smiling at him. "Hello, Caspian."

The Girl Is Crafty Like Ice Is Cold, Avengers, Natasha/Clint:

There's a lot of things Clint likes. He likes the satisfaction of lining up and delivering a perfect shot. He likes spending lazy Sunday mornings in bed, sleeping late, and watching old movies on TV. He likes the afternoons he sneaks away to visit the circus, and everyone complaining about not knowing where he went when he returns late at night. He likes a cold beer at the end of a long day. But what he likes the best is watching Natasha work.

Untitled Tirian story, Narnia (this one is kind of long):

Tirian paced around the confines of the small cell he shared with Aislinn. He'd lost count of how many rounds he'd made, but he was pretty sure he had worn a path in the dirt floor. But anything was better than sitting still, no matter how many times Aislinn implored him to sit because the pacing was making her dizzy.

Making her dizzy! Tirian made what he felt was an heroic attempt at not rolling his eyes. His aunt claimed she was currently conversing with the ghosts of the Kings and Queens of Old, which was at least a change from the previous warnings about the downfall of Narnia she had been babbling on about.

Tirian knew that his father and other family members valued Aislinn's visions - in fact his father often visited his sister when there were difficult decisions at hand, for her advice and insight. But spending hours with her in a cell as she recounted vision after vision for him - visions Tirian most decidedly did not want to know about, since so many involved variations of his own death - was wearing on his nerves. Just a little.

He sighed and leaned on the bars. He had no doubt rescue would come. Arie and Jewel and Catri had surely worked out a plan by now! But the more time passed with still no rescue, and Aislinn's continued predictions of his death were combining to make him a little worried.

"Tirian." The voice was low and calm, unlike the voice his aunt spoke in when describing her visions. That was always high-pitched and trembling, as if moments away from hysteria.

He turned to face her, and was startled by how clear her eyes were. Tirian couldn't remember the last time he had seen his aunt look so... sane. "Yes?"

"We need to escape soon. There's not much time left. These people intend to kill us."

Tirian sighed. She wasn't telling him anything he didn't know already. "Yes, Aunt. My friends will be here soon and they'll --"

"We don't have time to wait for your friends. We must leave this place now!"

The look on her face, that tone in her voice - it was so much like Grandmother Branna that Tirian shivered. And he remembered, for the very first time, that Aislinn had been raised to be Queen, to rule Narnia.

Maybe that will inspire me to finish some of them. :D

I am interested in a number of these but most especially the YA band fic, because yes. I can see the hilarity already. Using Tommy's POV is GENIUS.
