Music and a poll!

I have a playlist on iTunes called "Love Songs" (I know, I know, very original). It's actually pretty large, because I am a sucker for any kind of a good love song. Here are 10 songs (in no particular order) from that playlist:

03 Bonnie & Clyde by Jay-Z & Beyonce
She do anything necessary for him / And I do anything necessary for her / so don't let the necessary occur, yep! / All I need in this life of sin, is me and my girlfriend / Down to ride 'til the very end, it's me and my boyfriend

Listen, Jay-Z and Beyonce declaring their devotion to each other is just great. And every time I hear it, I throw my hands in the air and wave'em like I just don't care. No, seriously, I do. Every. single. time. Picture it.

The Book of Love by Peter Gabriel
But I / I love it when you read to me / And you / You can read me anything

OMG, this song. This song is so quiet and beautiful and all about skipping the clichés while still acknowledging them, and when it gets to the part about wedding rings, my heart just gets all clenchy.

Silver Springs by Fleetwood Mac
You could be my silver springs / Blue green colors flashin' / I would be your only dream / Your shining autumn, ocean crashing

Okay, my favorite love songs are not always about happy endings. And I am totally tinhatty for Stevie and Lindsey. :D

Nothing Matters When We're Dancing by The Magnetic Fields
And nothing matters when we're dancing / In tat or tatters you're entrancing / Be we in Paris or in Lansing / nothing matters when we're dancing

This song never ever fails to make me cry. So short and bittersweet and perfect.

I Melt With You by Modern English
I'll stop the world and melt with you / You've seen the difference and it's getting better all the time / There's nothing you and I won't do / I'll stop the world and melt with you

The love song of my teenage dreams!

True Companion by Marc Cohn
When the years have done irreparable harm / I can see us walking slowly arm in arm / Just like that couple on the corner do / 'Cause girl I will always be in love with you

Friends of mine played this at their wedding, twenty years ago, and it always makes me think of them when I hear it.

When I Grow Too Old to Dream by Nat King Cole
So kiss me my sweet / And so let us part / And when I grow too old to dream / Your love will live in my heart

Aw, my dad loved this one. It always makes me think of him.

God Only Knows by The Beach Boys
I may not always love you / but long as there are stars above you / you never need to doubt it / I'll make you so sure about it

Mmmm, the Beach Boys! I love them and I love all of their songs, but I think this may be their greatest achievement.

Get Here by Oleta Adams
You can windsurf into my life, take me up on a carpet ride / You can make it in a big balloon, but you better make it soon

Oh, this one takes me back. I remember how it became a big hit during the first Gulf War, cut with messages from soldiers and their families.

My Love Is Your Love by Whitney Houston
If I lose my fame and fortune / And I'm homeless on the street / And I'm sleeping in Grand Central Station / It's okay if you're sleeping with me

Oh Whitney. I like to think this is her love song to her daughter (if it isn't, you don't have to tell me. I like my idea).

Your turn!

Tell me your favorite!

And your second favorite!

And another!

And yet another!

Just one more!

Also, feel free to add more to your list in comments! But be nice in comments! People are sensitive about their love song choices, so no declaring they're dumb or you hate them. Oh, and feel free to link!

...I just looked at my answers and wow, they're all about people who are separated or in trouble or worried. They're all love songs though!

I would have totally put No Aphrodisiac as my first choice, but [personal profile] lilacsigil beat me to it, and she's the one who brought the album to our relationship, so I have to let her have it. I uploaded some of mine, because more people should know and love these artists, especially the Aussies, like The Whitlams, Washington and Augie March.

No Aphrodisiac // The Whitlams, is the best, most sexually frustrated love song ever. It's a love letter on a cassette.

One Crowded Hour // Augie March is bittersweet and cynical and yet desperately in love.

Ghost // Indigo Girls is the break up song for when you're still in love and probably always will be, even though you know it's killing you.

How to Tame Lions // Washington is for luring that nervy, jumpy person into your life, and it's the happiest song I nominated.

I Make Hamburgers (I Get All the Girls)// The Whitlams - not on my list, but it would have been the next thing I nominated.
