Remix Reveals!

Remix writers were revealed yesterday, so time to chat about that! :D

First up, two of my stories were remixed, one for Remix proper and one for Remix Madness.

You Were A Vampire (The Belong to the Shadows remix) (1055 words) by WingedFlight
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Chronicles of Narnia - C. S. Lewis
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: Author Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Relationships: Caspian/Susan Pevensie
Characters: Caspian (Narnia), Peter Pevensie, Susan Pevensie, Edmund Pevensie, Lucy Pevensie
Additional Tags: vampire!AU
Summary:

His people have always belonged to the shadows.

Winged did such a great job expanding some of my 3 Sentence Ficathon fills about vampire-Caspian, and his interactions with each of the Pevensies. I love how she flipped the POV, and how she really ramped up the sense of dread, and Caspian's ruthlessness in taking what he wants. Delightfully creepy!

The Palace Beautiful (Valley of the Shadow of Death Remix) (464 words) by MiraMira
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Little Women - Louisa May Alcott
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: Author Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Characters: Marmee March, Elizabeth March
Additional Tags: Alternate Universe - Space, Artificial Intelligence, Family, Grief/Mourning, Wordcount: 100-500
Summary:

Marmee is truly glad and grateful to have *all* her daughters with her on the journey to their new home, in spirit if not body. And yet, there are still things she misses.

Oh man, an unexpected treat! MiraMira expands on my Little Women in Spaaaaaaaace AU, by giving us Marmee's POV on Beth's situation. I love it - Marmee is sensible and strong and heartbroken, all at once, just as you'd expect. Really well done!

*************

And now the stories I wrote!

Howl When We're Apart (This One's For the The Girls Remix) (2150 words) by Snacky
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: A Song of Ice and Fire - George R. R. Martin
Rating: Not Rated
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: sansa stark & arya stark
Characters: Arya Stark, Sansa Stark
Additional Tags: Remix, Remix Redux, Alternate Universe, Future Fic, Female-Centric, Female Characters
Summary:

Another girl on a horse, riding through the winds and snows of winter as only Northern girls could.

This is a remix of comradeocean's The Ballad of the Blacksmith Prince. When I was looking at her stories and seeing what I could remix, the note at the end of this one, asking for a Sansa-and-Arya-centric remix hit me, and I wanted to see if I could pull it off.

I think I did! I kept the same basic premise - Sansa and Gendry are to wed, to secure Winterfell with Stark and Baratheon union, and Arya returns in the middle of it. But I flipped it so it was the story of both the girls, Arya returning to Westeros and making her way to Winterfell, and Sansa at Winterfell, dreaming warg dreams and seeking out lone direwolves in the Wolfswood, doing what she must to be the Stark in Winterfell, and thinking of ways to pull what's left of her pack back together.

I actually wish I had a better ending here for Arya - the story started off really strong with her, but then Sansa (who, I admit, I have a better handle on writing) came in, and it turned more into her story. And it would have been really easy to have it be Arya riding all over the country and ticking off names on her list. :D But for the most part, I think it worked. I just really wanted to focus on the sisters coming together again, and how they would, and how Sansa, even without a direwolf, is still a Stark, and a wolf of Winterfell. And how Arya needs to remember that she's the same, and how she's drawn back north, even before she remembers exactly who she is.

Poor Gendry kind of got the short end of the stick though. Heh.

My second story was a pinch-hit!

It's Hard Out There for a Princess (The Princess Peony Pavane) (2296 words) by Snacky
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Chronicles of Narnia - C. S. Lewis
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Edmund Pevensie, Susan Pevensie, Princess Peony (OC)
Additional Tags: Character Study, POV Female Character
Summary:

Even a Dim Princess has her reasons, despite what a Just King might believe.

I got this pinch-hit at the last minute, but it took me only a few minutes to decide which story of Ruth's I was going to Remix.

I had thought at first about taking a scene out of Apostolic Way, or Harold and Morgan, and remixing that from an alternative POV. But when I was looking at Ruth's stories, I kept going back to BRD, which was one of the first of her fics I ever read, and the idea of remixing it from one of Dim Princess's POVs hit me.

I had a lot of fun with this remix! I loved fleshing Peony out, giving her a background and a history and a different outlook on life than the usual Narnian suspects. :D What I was really hoping to do was to take a maligned background character, and make her the heroine of (her own) story, not just a bit player in Edmund's. I think I managed that too! My biggest regret is the ending - I know it's abrupt, and I would have liked to have given Peony her ending in Archenland, with a scene where she was thinking about what she learned in Narnia, and how it changed her outlook on her "husband hunt." But I was pressed for time (yes, yes, I'm the reason the archive opened so late, sorry about that!) so I tied up the end where I could.

I had two other stories I was going to post for Remix Madness (another Narnia one and another ASOIAF one! I am sadly predictable :D), but with the pinch-hit, I didn't have time to finish them properly, so I guess I'll keep those for next year.

I loved what you did with Peony so much. And I still feel so badly that the horror of remixing me managed to wipe out both the assigned writer and a pinch hitter before you got stuck with me. I'm so grateful for you writing the story that I never did and giving that character the story she deserved.
