Dear Yuletide Writer
Hello, Yuletide Writer!
First off, thanks so much for writing a story in one of these fandoms. I love them all, and will just be so glad to have any story for any of the requests.
In general, some things I love: great dialogue/witty banter, humor, stories that are bittersweet but still have happy, or at least hopeful endings. I love when stories make me laugh AND cry. I love canon explorations and world-building - what was going on here during this moment, and what was happening elsewhere, and backstory on people and things we only know a little about.
I love character studies and relationship (not just love, friendship, family, etc) stories - I always want to know more about these characters I love, why they did this or that, how they react in new situations, that kind of things. Caveat: I don't really love vignettes or navel-gazing pieces, where one character mulls for the entire story of his/her life decisions. I want interaction with other characters and dialogue and I want to see things happen.
I'm fine with romance (slash and het) and porn, but not in all the fandoms. I'll get a little more specific in each fandom. If romance/porn is not your thing, don't worry, I love gen stuff too.
I love crossovers, if they fit with the fandom, time-framewise, tone-wise - I've got some suggestions below. But no pressure if crossovers aren't your thing!
If character pieces aren't your thing, I am extremely happy with adventures of all sorts, or plotty gen stories. Like I said, I love all these characters and want to see them in action. :D
Things I'd not like in a fic: extremely grimdark stories. Unhappy endings. I like some hurt/comfort, but not character torture. Please no rape, misogyny, extreme graphic violence, or character-bashing.
The Melendy Quartet by Elizabeth Enright
I would just like to know more, more, more about this family! Oliver, Cuffy, Father, Willy - all characters welcome. But Randy is my favorite, so I would really like to see her featured. I'd really like a story that feels like the books themselves.
These were some of my favorite books as a kid. I loved the characters and the fact that they were having adventures, but it was all real life, not a fantasy setting. I'd like to see what else happened to the Melendys - maybe a missing chapter from And Then There Were Five, or what Mona, Rush and Mark were up to while Randy and Oliver were finding clues during Spiderweb for Two. I’d love something post-series, like Mona’s acting career, or maybe Randy starting her dance career or working as an artist, and the two of them sharing an apartment in New York and having sister adventures! Or maybe a story set when they're all married with kids, like The Melendys: The Next Generation. :D I have no OTPs for this fandom, but romance would be fun, for any of them, but nothing too explicit. And no incest, please.
The Keeping Days by Norma Johnston
I would take anything here! I love Tish - maybe something about her life in England? Or perhaps how she broke up with Kenneth and then met her husband? Missing scenes from the books, future fic, stories that focus on family bonding, anything would be good.
Oh, these books! I remember reading them when I was an awkward, bookish, secret writer of a teenager, and thinking that Norma Johnston totally understood. Because there was Tish Sterling on the page and she was just like me, except for that whole living in 1900 in New York bit. But I think that was the magic of these books for me, that they were historical YA fiction but they felt so contemporary.
I love Tish and Bron as sisters, and Katie and Saranne being aunt and niece AND BFFs, and I’d love to see a story exploring those relationships. But feel free to use other characters too, like Ken, Marnie, Ben, Stella, Mary Lou, Paul, etc. I’d love some missing stories set between A Mustard Seed of Magic and A Nice Girl Like You - what happened to the characters in that time? How did Tish decide to go to England and break up with Ken?
I’d also love future fic here – what happens to these characters after the books end? From Johnston’s Carlisle Chronicles, we know that Katie ends up grandmother to Jess Carlisle, but what about her sisters and Saranne? Where do their lives take them? A crossover with the Carlisle books would be fine here, but no pressure if you haven’t read those.
I’d be fine with romance in these stories, canonical or otherwise, but no incest please.
Malone/Belford Series, by Lenora Mattingly Weber
I loved how, in the Katie Rose books, we got to see Beany grown up and expecting her first child. So maybe fic where all the characters get together! It doesn't have to be all four characters, but Katie Rose is my favorite, so I'd love to see her. Katie Rose and Miguel getting together would be great too. More futurefic - do they ever marry?
More formative books from my teen years! I was fascinated by these books, and the time periods they covered. I love how Beany could never stop getting herself in trouble, mostly because she cared so much and wanted to help everyone so much. I love how Katie Rose was so different from Beany, and how she could learn from her mistakes and change, how even though she thought she was in control and coolheaded, her heart was as big as Beany’s and got her into trouble just as often. I loved how well-drawn the characters were in all the books – even the minor characters
I’d definitely love future fic here. I just feel like I knew these characters so well, that I want to know how their lives turn out.
I’d also love a romance with Katie Rose and Miguel, after they graduate high school – they were sort of together in the books, but it almost seemed more of a best friend thing. I’d love to see it turn into a real romance.
Feel free to use any of the other characters, too. Basically, I’d love any kind of story in this fandom. Whatever you could give me would be great. Just no incest, because I really don’t see that with these characters.
The Montmaray Journals by Michelle Cooper
Oh my gosh, I would love anything here. I couldn't select all the characters, but I love them all. More adventures of Sophie and Veronica during the War! Sophie spying! Futurefic with them all (and their children) on Montmaray! Anything!

I would take any story in this fandom. Please feel free to use the other characters in the story too – I couldn't request them all. Some suggestions: tell me more about Henry, those years during the War she spent apart from the others. Tell me about Simon, after he left Sophie and disappeared – what was he doing all that time? Tell me how Toby and Simon got back together, and how they made things work with Julia. How about Sophie and Rupert and Veronica and Daniel and Toby and Simon and Julia rebuilding Montmaray? I’d love romance here, for any of the characters.
I would love crossovers in this fandom! Maybe one with Code Name Verity? I could totally see Sophie and Veronica crossing paths with Julie and Maddie at some point. Or even with Narnia – Susan could meet with Sophie, or Peter could be in the RAF with Toby, or Lucy and Henry could be friends. But no worries if you don't know those fandoms, or crossovers aren't your thing – like I said, I would love any Montmaray stories you can tell me.
