Journalfen server status: not so robust ;)

In case you were one of the people wondering!

Regarding Journalfen being down, I checked with the JF admins, and this is what I was told:

It's not down for good. They had to cancel the old servers while migrating to the new ones, because double server payments were too expensive. The problem is that the old LJ code is too hard to install on modern servers now, so they're going to have to try to get a dreamwidth codebase installed and then find a way to import the old entries.

So it's only the old LJ codebase that's gone for good. Evidently it will be tricky importing all the old entries and comments, and it might take a while, but they're pretty sure they can do it!

There should be a placeholder up at journalfen.net soon, explaining this! HERE IT IS!

Thanks for the info. I had been wondering what was going on.

/o\ I seeeeee.

crossing fingers a complete migration will work. and will not break bookmarks to past posts! (that maybe is a tall order. I'm afraid.)

May we link this at [community profile] metanews? We also post at LJ and Tumblr. (We will check Journalfen's status before we post and only link if it's still down.)

Thanks. I just noticed a bunch of old bookmarks weren't working, and the placeholder site had the copyright date ending in 2011, and I was worried this had been going on for years.

Luckily, Google pointed me to this post. I guess they just never bothered to update that bit.

Journalfen still isn't up again. Should we consider it gone for good, do you think?

Any further updates? It's been more than two years now, are the admins completely out of it at this point? I understand that there was a serious family illness, and I sympathize, but I really don't want to see years of work just gone forever. If the admins don't have the time or interest to pursue it, I'm sure someone could be sent the drives and the work could continue.
